Just look at the transformation just half a year later! Move the handle to see the second picture, which was taken in April of this year. The shrubs with the yellow flowers are Senna alata (know as fedegosão in Brazil), a fast-growing pioneer species planted to help the soil recover faster.

This site was formerly a sugarcane plantation, so we didn’t have problems with grass compared to other restoration sites in the area. The fast growth here is also due to the soil having been fertilized from the sugarcane, which helps the seedlings to develop faster.
