Dissotidendron lanatum is an endemic plant which is localised but common in the Mafinga mountains.

It is found in upper Brachystegia woodland and on exposed quartzite outcrops, and is one of the only nine endemic or near-endemic plant taxa that occur in montane grassland above an altitude of 2100m.
