In the consultation workshop, relevant stakeholders from the region (Tigray Regional State Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ethiopian Environment and Forest Research Institute, Mekelle University, Tigray Agricultural Research Institute, GiZ- Biodiversity Program and EOC-DICAC), district (Atsbi wonberta District office of Agriculture and Rural Development, Atsbi wonberta District Administration office, and CCA), community representatives’ and Development agents from Atsbi wonberta village from Kalamin and Felegeweyni were present.
WeForest works on long-term Forest and Landscape Restoration programs, focussing at the Desa’a natural forest and it’s surrounding communities. To ensure the long-term continuity of the Forest and Landscape Restoration programs, WeForest looks to receive payments through Carbon marketing in the international market. The role of stakeholders in the process of developing and implementing projects dealing with ecosystem services payment and identifying any other potential stakeholders to collaborate in the process were also discussed. All invited stakeholders were very happy with the Ecosystem services payment concept and proposal. This would also replicated to other forest areas and save the few remaining natural forests in Tigray.
