100 million trees: a milestone for WeForest – and we’re just getting started

After 14 years of hard work, we’re proud to announce that we’ve reached a major milestone: 100 million trees grown. These trees represent more than just restoration; they reflect over 70 700 hectares of land restored and 86 000 families whose lives and livelihoods have been positively impacted.

But we’re not stopping there.

What’s next? Another 100 million treesin just 5 years

The urgency of the climate crisis means we need to accelerate our work. With the right partnerships and financial backing, we can scale up our efforts, helping more communities restore and protect their forests while making a significant impact on the planet’s health.

Restoring forests for people, nature and climate

Our work doesn’t just focus on trees—it’s about the communities who depend on forests and the ecosystems we protect.

People

WeForest’s projects directly benefit the people who live in and around forest areas. We focus on providing communities, particularly women, with the tools and training needed to generate sustainable incomes without putting pressure on forest resources. In Ethiopia, for example, our projects have helped double the household income of families engaged in livestock husbandry—traditionally a female-led activity. Through sustainable livelihoods like agroforestry and beekeeping, we’re helping communities to live off the land in a sustainable way.

Nature

Forests are home to 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. By restoring ecosystems in biodiversity hotspots, like the Atlantic Forest, our projects not only protect wildlife but also create corridors that allow species to thrive. Our projects help reintroduce native species, boost biodiversity, and ensure long-term resilience for both nature and people.

Climate

Forests are one of our most powerful tools in the fight against climate change. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to stabilise global temperatures. Through large-scale restoration projects in areas such as the Atlantic Forest in Brazil and the miombo woodlands across southern Africa, WeForest is actively reducing atmospheric CO2 and contributing to global efforts to keep temperature rises below 1.5°C.
