Enabling the sustainable growth of two trees for every tree used

Overview

Brambles, a pioneer of the sharing economy, stands as one of the world’s most sustainable companies. The company’s circular business model, which facilitates the ‘share and reuse’ of the world’s largest pool of reusable pallets and containers, enables Brambles to serve its customers while minimizing environmental impact and enhancing the efficiency and safety of supply chains globally. With a commitment to becoming a regenerative, nature-positive business, Brambles is focused on going beyond ‘zero’ impact by restoring forests, eliminating waste, and expanding forest habitats to increase carbon sequestration and support biodiversity.

Under its pledge to the 1t.org coalition, Brambles has committed that by 2025,  the company will enable the sustainable growth of two trees for every tree used in its operations. This commitment aligns with the World Economic Forum’s 1t.org mission to conserve, restore, and grow a trillion trees by 2030 for the benefit of people, biodiversity, and the planet.

Our Partnership

Brambles partnered with WeForest to support its ambitious sustainability goals through forest restoration. WeForest was selected from a wide range of reforestation organizations due to its ability to provide scalable, science-based solutions and proven track record of successful, long-term forest restoration projects. WeForest’s expertise in executing community-driven programmes, with a focus on long-term success, closely aligns with Brambles’ vision for regenerative forestry and environmental stewardship.

The partnership has secured funding for an initial three-year period to accelerate action and achieve measurable environmental targets. Centred in Zambia, the collaboration aims to sustainably manage 2.78 million trees across approximately 3000 hectares, including a Key Biodiversity Area, by June 2025. WeForest’s on-the-ground teams work closely with local communities, ensuring that the project not only boosts biodiversity for long-term resilience but also improves soil health and supports wildlife habitats.

The partnership between Brambles and WeForest is designed to have far-reaching environmental and social impacts and has already supported the sustainable growth of 1.62 million trees. By contributing to forest restoration efforts in Zambia, Brambles is helping to regenerate forests, strengthen forest ecosystems, and bolster local economies. This initiative is expected to enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and create sustainable wildlife habitats, ensuring a resilient and thriving ecosystem.

Moreover, the partnership reinforces Brambles’ reputation as a global leader in sustainability. It has fostered a sense of pride among Brambles’ employees, customers, and shareholders, who recognize the company’s commitment to long-term environmental stewardship. Through this collaboration, Brambles is not just planting trees but actively working to secure a sustainable future for both nature and the communities that depend on it, exemplifying leadership in the global effort to combat climate change and restore our planet’s forests.
