Preparing a major new nursery

Here, the site is being prepared for the seedlings in the new WeForest/The Hunger Project tree nursery at Geray in West Gojjam.

This nursery is very close to Gewocha Forest, meaning low transport costs at planting time! Formerly a government-run nursery, Geray has the capacity to raise the 10,000,000 native seedlings planned throughout the project for Gewocha Forest and the communal lands, which could include threatened species such as Ficus vasta, Cordia africana, Albizia gummefera, Ficus sur forssk or Syzigium guineense.

Other community or private nurseries will supply the high-value fruit trees and shrubs such as mango, avocado, coffee and banana for the agroforestry programme.
