Carbon offsetting (or compensation)

Trees are great carbon 'sinks'.
Through photosynthesis trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood: this is why trees are sometimes referred to as 'carbon sinks'. When planting trees you will offset carbon emissions, and help provide wildlife habitat for many hundreds of years.

What is carbon footprint?
The carbon footprint measures the impact of our activities on the environment. It equates to the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) produced in our day-to-day lives through our overall consumption as well as burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation. It is measured in tons (or kg) of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq).

Carbon or carbon dioxide?
To convert from carbon (C) to carbon dioxide (CO2) multiply by 3.67.

How to get started?
Give us information on your energy reduction plan and the remaining carbon you'd like to compensate; we will provide you with the number of trees needed.

How many trees?
Trees in tropical areas such as Mindanoa are universally recognized as great carbon sinks: climate is warm and humid throughout the year and subject to seasonal monsoon rains (May - October) and (November - February).
Our calculation- which includes a buffer of 50% for natural and other risks, as recommended by IPCC- shows that in order to absorb 1 ton of CO2 over a period of 4 years, 32 trees are needed on average (or 31 kg of CO2 per tree).
The offset can be done over more than 4 years but for the benefit of the planet, we actually recommend to keep this offset cycle short. Should the offset be done over 10 years, 8 trees would be needed on average to offset 1 ton of CO2eq. We are working to have our Mindanao project carbon certified (VCS).

For example our registered brand Buy2get1tree & logo can be leveraged to promote a pack. Other corporations are currently using this with great results to push specific lots and celebrate 2011, the International Year Of Forest.

How to get started?

Give us information on what product you have selected for a promotion and we will make a quote for trees in one of our projects. You will receive plenty of information on the planting site, pictures and impact of your action on local population which you can share on your own website. You can also route your customers to our website.

Invite customers to plant trees

What if your product was associated with a good action for the environment without any major cost to you?
For example, "Do you want trees with that?" is a campaign suited to the service industry.

How?
The customer can choose to add a tree to his/her online order.
When billing, you can ask your customer if he/she wants to add a tree.
As the service provider, you can choose to match the donation and communicate about it.

We calculated that if for every serving of soda sold a tree was planted, it would only take us 3 years to restore the balance on our planet.
