To start a project we carefully select a local partner. We then ensure that the trees are planted according to our stringent requirements and that the area is protected as much as possible against potential grazing and clear cut logging. The land we restore is guaranteed for long term protection.

Focus on The Philippines

Permaculture reforestation in Sarangani with the indigenous tribes of Mindanao.
The Malungon area of the Sarangani province, located in the southern region of The Philippines, was once one of the richest forests in the world. Today, the remaining growth exists in small, fragmented stands which are vulnerable to illegal deforestation and degradation.

This new project has the capacity for planting 5 million trees (3000 ha) in our first phase over the next 3 years thus contributing to restoring the local forest with the Blaan and Tagakaulo tribes of Mindanao.

To promote this project globally we have received the support of Congressman (and boxing champion) Manny Pacquiao.

"I had a really good session explaining about climate change and why we were planting and how WeForest hoped to train them in permaculture systems so that when they get out they will be qualified to grow crops and will hopefully teach in their communities. It was amazing to see the transformation from depressed vacant looks to -at the end - hope and enthusiasm."

"President Haile Mariam from Ethiopia first asked ERP to engage in a protective reforestation effort following severe flooding that washed away quite a few huts and killed 11 people back in 2004. Now, 7 years later the forest we planted has stopped the flooding and the 3 village areas below the new forest all report that there is no flooding and that they feel safe again".
